Francine is expected to make landfall Wednesday as a Category 1 hurricane. While the storm appears headed to the Louisiana coast, Southern and coastal Mississippi could see a risk of flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

In advance of Tropical Storm Francine’s approach to the Gulf Coast, Mississippi Coast school districts and institutions of higher learning are considering alterations of their schedules for the rest of the school week, considering the expected arrival of severe weather.
Here is a list of local districts and schools and their plans:
Bay St. Louis-Waveland School District: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
Biloxi Public School District: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
Coast Episcopal School: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
Grace Baptist Academy: All classes canceled on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
Gulfport School District: All classes canceled on Wednesday, Sept. 11 and Thursday, Sept. 12.
Hancock County School District: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
Harrison County School District: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
Holy Trinity Catholic School: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
Jackson County School District: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
Long Beach School District: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
Moss Point School District: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
Nativity BVM School: All classes canceled on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
Ocean Springs School District: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
Our Lady Academy: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
Pascagoula-Gautier School District: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
Pass Christian School District: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
St. Alphonsus Catholic School: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
St. Patrick Catholic High School: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
Saint Stanislaus High School: All classes canceled on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11-12.
Higher education
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College: MGCCC will return to normal operations at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12th. Classes that meet at 9:30 a.m. will begin at 10 a.m..
University of Southern Mississippi: The University of Southern Mississippi will delay opening until noon on Thursday, Sept. 12 across all locations in Hattiesburg and along the Gulf Coast.
William Carey University: William Carey University will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 12. This includes campuses in Hattiesburg, Tradition and Baton Rouge, La.
