Most Wednesday afternoon and evening flights have been canceled at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport ahead of Hurricane Francine’s landfall, according to the airport’s arrivals and departures tracker.
The storm is forecast to make landfall near Morgan City, Louisiana, late Wednesday afternoon or evening. Wednesday morning forecasts predict the Mississippi Coast will avoid a direct hit. But the region is at risk for storm surge, flash flooding and gusty winds through Thursday morning.
Chaille Munn, director of marketing at the airport, said some flights left Wednesday morning. She encouraged travelers to check with airlines for the most up-to-date information on flights.
The storm did not appear to cause major problems at the airport.
“Everything is pretty normal and calm right now,” Munn said Wednesday morning.
Impacts on Thursday flights were also unclear. “We’re just encouraging everyone to keep checking with their airline,” Munn said.
Arrivals on MS Coast
Two flights arrived at the airport Wednesday morning and a third is expected to arrive on time, according to the arrivals tracker. One American Airlines flight arriving after noon was canceled.
As of 10 a.m., the last on-time arrival was listed at 2:35 p.m. from South Bend International Airport in Indiana.
Seven flights Wednesday afternoon and evening have been canceled, according to the airport’s arrivals tracker.
Departures from South MS
Two flights scheduled to depart before 11 a.m. were listed as on-time. A Delta Airlines flight scheduled for departure at 2:35 p.m. was still listed on-time as of 10 a.m.
Five departures have been canceled, according to the airport’s online tracker. Most canceled departures are after 4 p.m.
