Police say argument led to fatal shooting of man at Gulfport gas station

A man Gulfport police believed pulled the trigger in a Wednesday night shooting that left one man dead has been arrested.

Officers arrested Peter Julius Henderson, 30, of Theodore, Alabama, around 3:15 a.m. Thursday on a charge of murder. Henderson’s bond was set at $1 million by Judge Brandon Ladner. Henderson is being held in the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.

Gulfport police responded to a shooting call Wednesday night around 9:45 at the Citgo gas station at 1103 Pass Road.

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said Chandler Pugh, 26, of Gulfport died from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was found dead at the scene at around 9:45 p.m.

Pugh had been shot in the chest multiple times, Police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said.

Someone at the scene who claimed to be the victim’s father said Pugh had gone into the store to buy cigarettes just before he was shot. Police said a witness claimed Pugh was in an argument with someone in the parking lot when Henderson exited a vehicle and started shooting at him with a handgun.

Henderson was taken into custody at the Citgo.
