Gulfport High hires their next girls basketball coach. He’s got quite the resume.

Gulfport High School has announced its second coaching hire of the week.

The Admirals are bringing in former Laurel boy’s head coach Marcus Price to lead the girl’s hoops team.

Price will be replacing Brooke Glass, a Hancock High alumnus who stepped down in March after five seasons.

“After interviewing several outstanding candidates, Marcus Price rose to the top of the list,” athletic director Bryan Caldwell said. “His coaching record speaks for itself. I have no doubt Coach Price is the right person to continue the recent success of Lady Admiral basketball.”

Price has a strong coaching resume in Mississippi, having led Laurel to the 5A state title game in both 2015 and 2016. He was named the Mississippi Association of Coaches Coach of the Year in 2016. Price has an overall head coaching record of 165-75.

“Coach Brooke Glass has done a great job establishing a winning mentality, and I look forward to infusing my style and brand of basketball into an already well-run program,” Price said. “Through discipline, dedication, and a commitment to excellence, we will take the next step in the evolution of Gulfport Lady Admiral Basketball.”

Price played college ball at Jones Junior College, Southern Miss and Union.

Gulfport also announced Monday the hiring of Donevin Esterhuizen as its newest boy’s soccer coach.
