Gulfport girl’s basketball head coach Brooke Glass has stepped down after five seasons, according to a press release from Gulfport High School.

Glass, a graduate of Hancock High, was hired in April 2017 and amassed a 75-56 record as the leader of the Admirals’ program. Under her guidance, Gulfport won two area championships in Region 8-6A in 2018 and 2021.

The team also made three elite eight appearances in the state tournament, including a trip this season to cap an 18-win year.

“The past five years at Gulfport High have been some of the best memories of my coaching career,” Glass said in the press release. “I have had the privilege of developing relationships with student athletes that has afforded me the opportunity to stay connected to them and watch them become successful young women.”

Glass cited a chance to regain more time with her family as the driving force behind the decision.

“Coaching and being a mom is one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life,” Glass said. “There were many days where I have to put my ‘mom hat’ on the back burner. Having said that, I have come to the realization that I cannot get these years with my children back.”

Glass plans on putting her master’s degree to work by taking a yet-to-be-known administrative position.

Gulfport athletic director Bryan Caldwell says the search for a new coach will begin immediately.

“We greatly appreciate everything Coach Glass has done for Gulfport High girl’s basketball during the past five years,” Caldwell said. “Her accomplishments speak for themselves. Not only has she been a fantastic basketball coach, but also a great role model for our young ladies. She leaves the program on solid ground and in a position to succeed in the future. We wish her the very best.”

Caldwell himself is also stepping away from his role at Gulfport later this year and his replacement has already been named.
