Coldest temps in months could hit South MS this Halloween. Here’s the forecast

A cold front sweeping across South Mississippi this week is expected to cool temperatures to the lowest point in months and bring crisp autumn weather on Halloween.

The front arrives on Wednesday and could drop temperatures by up to 20 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Highs close to 80 degrees on Monday and Tuesday could plummet to the 60s by the end of the week. Low temperatures on Thursday and Friday could near 40 degrees.

Bob Wagner, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Slidell, said the temperatures will likely be the coldest since early April.

Forecasters are predicting temperatures across Mississippi will fall below normal over the next six to 10 days. On the Mississippi Coast, there is a 40 to 50 percent chance temperatures will be cooler than usual.

The forecast may make for a cooler-than-usual Halloween. Meteorologists said the temperature could dip roughly 10 degrees below normal and may reach about 60 degrees after sunset Friday night when children across the region are trick-or-treating.

Wagner said overnight lows could get even colder, near 40 degrees, especially in Jackson County near the Pascagoula River basin.

The temperatures will rise slightly next week.

But “the real warm temperatures, we may be done with for a while,” Wagner said.
