What’s the difference between a frost and a freeze?

Frost

A frost occurs near freezing temperatures and can damage plants over time, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

According to researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, frosts happen closer to the ground during a phenomenon called temperature inversion, where temperatures at ground level get colder than higher up.

Freeze

A freeze happens when temperatures drop to 32 degrees or below, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. Freezes cause more damage to plants.
