Coroner identifies South Mississippi inmate who died in custody

Sierra Nicole Case has been identified as the jail detainee who died in custody at the Harrison County jail, Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said.

Case, 29, of Gulfport, was taken into custody on a misdemeanor warrant for prostitution in Biloxi on Saturday, according to the Harrison County jail docket

Harrison County jail staff found Case unresponsive in her cell during a cell check around 7 p.m.

The emergency department at Singing River Gulfport reported the death to the coroner about 8:15 p.m. after Case was taken there by ambulance from the jail.

An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday to determine the cause of death, though Switzer said no foul play is suspected. Toxicology tests are scheduled as well.
