After the Humane Society of South Mississippi flooded during heavy rain, the nonprofit animal shelter is hoping to replace the roof on its Gulfport building. The shelter houses more than 350 cats and dogs.

Biloxi police officers responded to the beach before midnight Saturday to a reported drowning. Harrison County Chief Deputy Coroner Brian Switzer identified the victim as Tommie Berry, 30, of Tupelo MS. Officials do not suspect foul play.
