Take a peek inside the new Buc-ee’s travel center, opening soon in South Mississippi

Anticipation is growing for the opening of Mississippi’s first Buc-ee’s travel center, as Harrison County officials begin inspections and a job fair is just two weeks away.

Harrison County Fire Rescue personnel and Harrison County Code Office inspectors toured the 74,000 square foot building on Thursday morning, March 20. Buc-ee’s is under construction at the Menge Avenue exit of Interstate 10.

“The walk-through was to follow up on the progress of the project,” is the message posted on the Fire Rescue Facebook site. Officials will be testing all safety systems head of the opening to make sure everything is up to code, the post says.

Buc-ee’s told the Sun Herald the grand opening of the travel center is expected in June.

Photos from the inspection tour show lights are in, flooring is down and counters are taking shape inside the sprawling building. The travel center will feature a big variety of food, mostly the company’s own brand that brings raves from customers. Another large section is devoted to gifts, housewares and souvenirs.

It also will have 120 fueling stations and 24 electrical charging stations.
