Bridge demo and overnight closure of I-10 at Buc-ee’s site is delayed. Here are the details

Monday’s closure of I-10 westbound is being delayed, probably for a couple of days, according to Mississippi Department of Transportation.

Notice of the cancellation of the bridge demo was sent out Friday morning by MDOT.

The interstate was scheduled to close overnight from Monday, Aug. 7, into early Tuesday morning to remove the span of the overpass at exit 24 as part of a new interchange.

Anna Ehrgott, MDOT public information officer, said the work and interstate closure likely will happen next week, a few days later than originally scheduled.

“The timing of this closure is subject to change and dependent upon construction progress, availability of materials and weather conditions,” MDOT said in an alert when originally announcing the date.

The new date and times will be announced when they are finalized.

I-10 will close again overnight in the eastbound lanes when that portion of the overpass is ready to be demolished.

In both cases all traffic will be directed onto the exit ramp and immediately back onto the interstate at the entrance ramp, said Kelly Castleberry, Mississippi Department of Transportation district engineer for the Sixth District.

The bridge demo is part of a $15 million project by Harrison County to rebuild the interchange in preparation for a new Buc-ee’s travel center and other new business in that area.
