Gulfport man identified in fatal U.S. 49 wreck. A female driver from Biloxi also died.

Nathaniel “Charlie” Miskell, 57, of Gulfport has been identified as one of two drivers who died late Friday afternoon in a wreck on U.S. 49 in north Harrison County.

The name of the other driver, a 67-year-old female from Biloxi, has not been released pending notification of next of kin, County Coroner Brian Switzer said.

Her passenger was a 54-year-old Biloxi man. He was flown to the University of South Alabama Medical Center with critical injuries, Switzer said. The man was in stable but critical condition Saturday in the intensive care unit.

Both Miskell and the woman died at the accident scene. She was wearing a seatbelt but Miskell, who was headed to Wiggins, was not, Switzer said.

The accident happened when the woman pulled her minivan from East Wortham Road onto U.S. 49, attempting to cross the northbound lanes to drive south.

Miskell, headed north on the highway in a Honda Accord, swerved but could not avoid the minivan, Switzer said.
