This Coast pastor and Realtor works tirelessly to fight stigmas and stereotypes
This is Color on the Coast, a series created to share the journeys, experiences, successes and challenges of people of color on the Coast. You can find episodes on our Instagram (@SunHeraldBiloxi) and YouTube (Sun Herald) pages.
From selling homes to creating a church home for his community, Tim Holmes strives to help people and hear their needs.
He is a Realtor as well as the pastor of Freedom Christian Church in Gulfport.
“It’s a really unique opportunity to get hands on in people’s lives and get beyond the surface of ‘How you doing? I’m doing good,’” Holmes said.
“People come to you with their war stories and their struggles and their hurts and their pain, and sometimes it feels overwhelming, but it feels like an appropriate place for me to be to help people that need help.”
As a Realtor, he says the work is both challenging and beautiful.
“The challenge of it is that there’s still a lot of stigmas and stereotypes that surround black people in business and black people period.”
“There’s always an extra question of, ‘Does this guy really know what he’s doing?’ or ‘Do I really want to let him handle the biggest purchase of my life?’
