Living and working in Mississippi could significantly benefit your wallet — if you play your cards right.

The Magnolia State is the second-most affordable state to live in 2025, according to a U.S. News & World Report ranking. It is also experiencing one of the highest employment growth rates in the country, an October report found, McClatchy News reported.

While the state has the lowest median household income in the country, at $44,966, according to World Population Review, there are still some high paying employment opportunities available.

A recent ranking by Nexford University found the 10 best paying jobs in Mississippi in 2025.
