After days of traffic delays, no congestion expected on I-10 near MS Coast Buc-ee’s site

If you’ve gotten stuck in traffic on Interstate 10 near the site of Mississippi’s first Buc-ee’s Travel Center, then it’s time for a temporary rejoice.

No congestion is expected on I-10 near the Menge Avenue exit through the next week, the Mississippi Department of Transportation told the Sun Herald on Friday.

The news comes after two days of congestion and delays that spanned from the Bay St. Louis exit (13) to the Long Beach exit (28) as work begins on replacing the overpass bridge on Menge Avenue. It’s the first phase of an interstate widening project to make way for the luxury gas station and general store.

Buc-ee’s is set to open in December 2024.

The last week has been hellish for drivers trying to navigate I-10 on the Coast — aside from the hours of congestion near Exit 24, westbound traffic near the Mississippi-Louisiana state line has been backed up for hours each day as repairs are made to the East Pearl River bridge.

Westbound drivers who travel from the Coast to Slidell or New Orleans can expect delays for the next month, MDOT says.

Keep up with the latest updates on MDOT’s traffic map.
