The Triplett-Day building is getting new life as something Gulfport has never seen before
Some of Ryan Goldin’s earliest childhood memories include the Triplett-Day Pharmacy.
As a child, the Gulfport native remembers getting a Coke from the soda fountain inside and standing near the iconic green building during Mardi Gras parades.
“I’ve always loved that location,” Goldin told the Sun Herald last week.
Now, the 40-year-old owns the building and is preparing to give it a new life, hopefully as an upscale restaurant that the city has never seen before.
“It’s a dream for me to own a piece of downtown,” he said.
Triplett-Day was open for 62 years before closing in March 2020 in the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Mississippi. Since then, the building has sat vacant.
Goldin, who also owns the two buildings next to it, is renovating the space. He hopes to find a tenant who will open a restaurant that introduces a new concept to downtown and complements other dining options. Goldin said he’d love to see an upscale Mediterranean restaurant open in the space.
“Triplett-Day was a destination. That’s something I want to recreate,” he said.
Goldin will keep the outside as it is to preserve the nostalgia factor, but the inside will be transformed to modern times.
His vision includes an open kitchen so diners can watch their meals being made. He also wants to turn the old office upstairs into a private dining space. The old barber shop next door could become a cool bar area.
Goldin is hoping to finish renovations and have a tenant inside the space by Cruisin’ The Coast 2023.
