An iconic fixture in downtown Gulfport is closing its doors after 65 years

The last day of March 2020 will be a day of mourning and remembrance for the loyal customers of Triplett-Day in downtown Gulfport.

The iconic pharmacy, soda shop and diner is closing its doors for good after serving the Mississippi Gulf Coast for 65 years, the owners said in a Facebook post on Monday.

The business will close on March 31.

The striped green building at the corner of 14th Street and U.S. 49 has been serving breakfast and lunch for decades. The diner’s beignets were named the best breakfast in the state in 2017 by USA Today.

“The time has come for us to enjoy our children, grandchildren, and great grandchild!” the post said.

All pharmacy records will be transferred to TD Pharmacy in Orange Grove.

The owners thanked their regular customers for their business over the last 6 decades.

“From the bottom of our hearts, WE want to thank you for the countless memories that will live on the Day family for many, many generations to come!”

Triplett-Day first opened in 1955.
