Four MS Coast restaurants fail health inspections, two with bugs or rodents present

Two restaurants in South Mississippi were cited by the health department for having bugs, rodents or animals present and two restaurants failed their inspections twice in less than a month.

The restaurants cited include:

Sushilicious & Thai, 315 U.S. 90, Waveland, was inspected Aug. 10 for a permit. The kitchen got a C for:

  • Insects, rodents or animals present
  • Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible

Corrected during the inspection were:

  • Food In good condition, safe and unadulterated
  • Time as public healthy control, procedures, records

The restaurant had a follow-up inspection on Aug. 24 and got another C. The health department form was not filled out to indicate what violations occurred.

The restaurant has received four Cs since 2019.

Coastline Caribbean Restaurant at 3205 Hewes Ave., Gulfport had a scheduled inspection on Aug. 17 and was cited for:

  • No certified manager
  • Insects, rodents or animals present
  • Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible, a repeat offense
  • Improper cold holding temperatures

This was the third C since 2011.

Comfort Inn & Suites at 9379 Canal Road in Gulfport had a follow-up inspection Aug. 8 after getting a C on an inspection July 26.

At the second inspection the kitchen was cited for:

  • No certified manager
  • Inspection report not posted

At the third inspection on Aug. 19, the violations were corrected during the inspection and the kitchen got a B.

Italian Bistro, 641 Delmas Ave., Pascagoula had a scheduled inspection Aug. 24 and got a C for:

  • No certified manager
  • No person in charge present who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty.

Corrected during the inspection were:

  • Hands clean and properly washed
  • No bare hand contact with ready to eat foods
  • Food in good condition, safe and unadulterated

This was the first scheduled inspection since the restaurant was issued a permit in December.

Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if violations are corrected during the inspection, and “C” if the violations are critical.

Since Aug. 5, the health department gave 254 As to restaurants, school kitchens and other food facilities, 28 Bs and 5 Cs.
