Do you love Rouses gentilly cake? There’s a new one available with a Mardi Gras twist.

These are arguably one of the most popular cakes in South Mississippi. You’ve seen them at birthday parties, graduations, wedding showers and other events on the Coast.

The gentilly cake, made popular here by Louisiana-based grocery retailer Rouses Markets, is hard to resist if you love sweets. The light, almond flavored white cake is filled with layers of fresh fruit and a decadent cream.

Now, Rouses has introduced a new take on their famous dessert in time for Mardi Gras.

The King Cake Gentilly is now available at Rouses bakeries in Diamondhead, Gulfport and Ocean Springs.

The new cake consists of yellow butter cake that’s layered with cinnamon sugar smear and cinnamon gentilly icing, the supermarket chain said on Facebook. The cake is topped with a dusting of purple, green and gold sugar.

The new dessert is just one of the many king cake options available on the Coast.

The King Cake Gentilly costs $19.99 and is available for a limited time. You can call and order one ahead, but there are a limited number available daily at the bakery counters.
