MS Coast daiquiri bar, hibachi grill and sandwich shop cited for health violations

Three Coast residents received a C from Mississippi Health Department for critical violations observed during inspections the last two weeks.

Hibachi Express, 9354 U.S. 49, Gulfport was inspected Oct. 4 for a permit renewal. The restaurant was cited for improper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use and for food and separated, both repeat offenses.

Corrected during the inspection were food contact surface cleaned and sanitized, along with proper hot holding temperatures.

A follow-up inspection on Oct. 13 showed all violations were corrections and the restaurant received a B grade. This is only the second C since 2012, with the previous one in 2020.

Subway at 11240 U.S. 49, Gulfport was inspected Oct. 4 for a permit renewal. It was cited for improper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use, a repeat offense, and also for improper cold-holding temperatures. A follow-up inspection on Oct. 13 showed all violations were corrected and the restaurant scored a B. This was the first C dating back to 2010

Sandbar Daiquiri Bar & Grill at 835 Vieux Marche Mall, Biloxi was inspected Oct. 14 for a permit renewal. The restaurant was given a C for having no person in charge present who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty, no certified manager and inadequate hand-washing facilities supplied and accessible

This is the first C for the restaurant dating back to 2015. A follow-up inspection on Oct. 20 showed all violations were corrected and the restaurant was given a B.

Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if violations are corrected during the inspection, and “C” if the violations are critical.

In the two weeks from Oct. 4-18, the Health Department inspected 172 restaurant and other food services in South Mississippi and gave 139 As, 15 Bs and 3 Cs.

In the past few months, the health department gave some food preparation businesses a C grade for not having licenses to operate.

During the past two weeks, 15 caterers, food trucks and other food service establishments received an X or no grade, with the the health department noting they had no records on the businesses.
