Gulfport’s Christmas lights show is one of the best in the US, according to Yahoo
More than one million lights twinkle and dance as snowflakes fly in the air and Santa awaits children’s lists starting this weekend at Gulfport Harbor Lights Winter Festival.
The event at Jones Park is so charming and small-town Christmas that it made Yahoo’slist of Top 10 Cities with the best Christmas Light Displays.
Gulfport was listed as No. 5, sharing the Top 10 list with iconic displays in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; Branson, Missouri and Santa Claus, Indiana.
“The Gulfport Harbor Lights Winter Festival features everything from giant ornaments to elaborate festive scenes to a ‘dancing trees’ show,” Yahoo says. “In addition to the lights, visitors can watch the elves work at Santa’s Village, ride carnival rides, take a train ride, or visit with the big man himself.”
The show opens Friday and runs nightly through New Year’s Eve. The only day it is closed is Christmas eve. To see the lights, hop on the heated CTA Trolley along Jones Park Drive, take a train ride or walk among the lights.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and tickets are the same as last year: $15 for ages 13 and older $5 for children ages 5 to 12 and free to children under 5. Tickets for the Ferris wheel and other festival rides are an additional cost.
Online tickets are nonrefundable but may be used for any open night and purchased at showclix.com. Tickets are also available at the box office at 2269 Jones Park Dr. in Gulfport. For more information, contact the City of Gulfport or visit Gulfportharborlights.com.
