At one time it looked like Jaquelle Green was destined for football stardom. Now the former D’Iberville football star is being held at the Escambia County (Fla.) jail on his second accusation of armed robbery in the last five months.

The Pensacola, Fla., police department recently released details from Green’s latest arrest.

According to the arrest report, Green, 18, and Jalen Harris approached four people at the Fricker Center about 11 p.m. June 22 while wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks. Surveillance video showed one of the men, later identified as Green, fire two shots from a semi-automatic long rifle into the air as they approached the victims, according to the report. Harris was “openly carrying” a handgun, according to the report.

Police say Harris and Green ordered the four victims to the ground. They took a purse from one victim and $660 in cash from two other victims before running off, the report said.

In the investigating officer’s statement, Harris agreed to questioning at the police department, where he later identified Green as a friend and said “people had been threatening (Harris) because they think he robbed them.” Harris initially denied his involvement, according to the report, but after being informed there was surveillance video he detailed the events of the robbery.

Harris told the police he fired his .22 caliber Ruger handgun once during the robbery, according to the report, and “only took 40.00 dollars from the robbery.”

In the report, Harris detailed running away from the recreation center and seeing police cars and lights as they tried to hide before eventually sleeping in a car for the night with “Jaq.” Harris told officers he threw his gun off the Barrancas Bridge the following morning and that Green was supposed to “get rid” of his rifle as well.

Latest charges

Green later turned himself in to D’Iberville police July 11 and was extradited to Pensacola authorities July 19. Green is being held on a bond of $510,000 stemming from one count of wearing a mask in the commission of a felony, four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and four counts of robbery with a firearm. Green’s arraignment is set for Aug. 11.

1st armed robbery arrest

In March, Green was arrested with three others by the D’Iberville police in connection to the armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver on Lamey Bridge Road. D’Iberville police Capt. Marty Griffin said no one was injured and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.

Football

As an underclassman, Green caught the attention of college recruiters and before even beginning his senior season he held offers from schools such as LSU, Alabama, Georgia and others. He verbally committed to Louisville during his senior season but ended up signing with Texas-San Antonio and new coach Frank Wilson in February.

UTSA spokesman Kyle M. Stephens told the Sun Herald that Green was dismissed from the program in May.
