Tylertown man who died in head-on crash is identified

A Tylertown man died Tuesday after running head-on into an 18-wheeler just outside of Poplarville.

Cpl. Chase Elkins of the Mississippi Highway Patrol said the incident happened about 4:30 p.m. on Highway 26 ear CJ Seals Road.

Elkins said it appeared that Andrew Olen Pierce, 27, was driving a yellow 2002 Jeep Wrangler was traveling east on Highway 26 when he crossed the center line and entered the westbound lane.

He then hit a westbound green 2006 Freightliner driven by William Simmons, 52, of Wiggins.

Pierce was pronounced dead at the scene, Elkins said. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Simmons, the Freighliner driver, reported no injuries. He was wearing a seat belt, Elkins said.

MHP is investigating the crash.
