Update: Armed bank robber pedaled away on bicycle in Long Beach
A bank robber armed with two guns demanded money from cashiers at Hancock Bank at Pineville and Beatline roads Wednesday afternoon, then pedaled away on a bicycle described as a yellow cruiser.
Long Beach Assistant Police Chief Alan Bond said the robber is white, and about 5 feet 6 inches tall. He was wearing a turquoise shirt and black-and-white cap. When cashiers handed over an undetermined amount of money from their drawers, he put it into a black backpack.
Bond said the robber was believed to be carrying a revolver and an automatic gun. He wore a stocking over the lower part of his face during the robbery, Bond said.
Bond said the bank was robbed about 2:25 p.m.
The robber headed west on Pineville Road. A witness may have seen him a short time later in the Long Beach industrial park, Bond said.
Police said they hope to release photos or video from a surveillance video.
The bank closed after the robbery. Five bank employees were behind the counter and appeared to be assisting police officers as they processed the crime scene.
