Harrison County family escapes early morning house fire

Five people escaped an early morning house fire Sunday on Papoose Road in central Harrison County.

The fire was believed to have started around 6:45 a.m. in the one-story, brick home. The family awoke to find the home filled with smoke, but they were able to escape unharmed, said Pat Sullivan with Harrison County Fire Services.

Fire damaged the kitchen and there was smoke damage throughout the rest of the home. Investigators with the Harrison County Fire Marshall’s Office determined the fire was the result of a stove fire. Units from Lizana Fire, Harrison County Fire Services and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office responded and quickly brought the fire under control, Sullivan said.

They contacted the American Red Cross to assist the family.
