Hazardous waste collected Saturday
South Mississippi residents had the opportunity Saturday to rid their homes of hazardous waste items, thanks to a partnership between Mississippi Power Co. and Harrison County.
Cindy Duvall of Mississippi Power said Saturday marked the 21st year of the collection.
"We came together with our community partners to responsibly and safely collect hazardous waste and help residents properly dispose of these items in an environmentally-friendly way," she said.
She said Saturday's collection yielded 907 old vehicles, 130 cubic yards of paint, about 1,700 gallons of used oil, 130 gallons of antifreeze, more than 1,000 used tires and more than 2,000 used batteries.
Seventy-five volunteers helped with the collection.
