2 men dead after vehicle hits tree, catches fire in D'Iberville
D'IBERVILLE -- Two men are dead after a single vehicle crash early Sunday morning, Police Chief Wayne Payne said.
Payne said police received a call about a vehicle accident on Lamey Bridge Road about 1:30 a.m.
He said police believe the driver of the car left the road just south of D'Iberville High School and struck a tree.
The driver and passenger of the vehicle were pronounced dead on scene, Payne said.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said the car caught fire, and both bodies were badly burned.
Hargrove said he is sending the bodies to the Mississippi Forensics Laboratory in Jackson to determine their identification before he releases the names of the victims.
An accident reconstruction team from Biloxi Police Department is assisting D'Ibervlle with the investigation. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, Payne said.
