A 34-year-old Gulfport man who died in an overnight camper fire was helping renovate the RV, Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer told the Sun Herald.

The camper, located in the 1400 block of 31st Avenue in Gulfport, went up in flames before 1 a.m. Wednesday and the victim, William Daniel, was pronounced dead on scene.

Switzer said Daniel likely died of smoke inhalation and no foul play is suspected. An autopsy will be performed on Thursday.

Daniel was temporarily staying inside the camper and was helping the owner renovate. They had recently finished the roof and were working on the flooring at he time of the fire, Switzer said.

The Gulfport Fire Department and state fire marshal’s office are investigating.
