Person jumps from window to escape fire that engulfed Pass Christian home near beach

Several Coast fire departments battled a house fire on Terrace Drive in Pass Christian.

Pass Christian Fire Chief Dwight Gordon said his department arrived at around 8:20 a.m. and the home was fully involved in fire.

Witnesses said the fire began in the back of the house and spread to the front by the time the fire crews arrived.

Gordon said they Harrison County had a call saying someone was still inside the home. The person got out before the trucks arrived by jumping out a back window of the elevated home and onto the ground.

Gordon said the elevated home made it a little more difficult to fight the fire than a ground level structure.

The Bay St. Louis ladder truck was brought in to fight the fire, along with fire and rescue personnel from Harrison County and Combat Readiness Training Center, he said.

They were able to keep the fire from spreading to any other structures, he said.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said both lanes of U.S. 90 were closed while fire crews worked to put out the blaze.

Photos provided by Harrison County Fire Services Chief Pat Sullivan show heavy damage to the interior and exterior of the home.
