You’ll go bananas over new cake boutique on DeBuys Road

If driving to Sangani Boulevard in D’Iberville has hindered getting your Cheeky Monkey Cake Company fix, a solution is on the way.

The bakery, known for its special occasion cakes and decadent-filled cupcakes, is close to opening its second location.

The new shop will be at 266 DeBuys Road in Biloxi across from the former Harrison County Skate Park. It will be in a building that once was a law office.

“We don’t have an opening date yet, but we’re working on it,” owner Jennifer Noble said. “We’re having to build a kitchen; there was no kitchen, and that takes a while. We’re dealing with plumbing right now, and they’re finishing up a ramp for us.”

The D’Iberville location has bistro-style tables where customers can sit and enjoy their sweet purchases, but the Biloxi shop will focus on walk-in customers.

“Here, at D’Iberville, we do a lot of cupcakes, but this will be more of a walk-in location,” Noble said. “We’ll focus more on custom wedding and birthday cakes — more of a boutique-style cake shop.”

Never fear. Over-the-top cupcakes and their Ultimate Chocolate brownies will be available on DeBuys Road, too.

“We probably have 150 flavors at D’Iberville, and at Biloxi, we’ll probably have 30 to 45,” Noble said.

That’s not all at one time, though. Cheeky Monkey has classics such as Devil’s Food, Very Vanilla and White Wedding, plus Turtle, Salted Caramel and Mississippi Mud. There are also seasonal favorites, such as Red Velvet and Gingerbread. You might see Blueberry Cobbler or Lemon Icebox cupcakes in the case, too, as featured flavors.

Noble often hears the love-and-lament struggle of loyal customers.

“People love us, but their waistlines hate us,” she said.
