BAY ST. LOUIS -- The Our Lady Academy Crescents are one step closer to defending their state title after sweeping the Magee Lady Trojans at home 3-0 (25-4, 25-5, 25-5) Tuesday night in round one of the Class I volleyball playoffs.
The Crescents led the Lady Trojans during all three sets, allowing OLA coach Mike Meyers an opportunity to give some of the younger members of his team valuable playoff experience.
"I'm proud of the way the girls handled themselves tonight," Meyers said. "I was able to go down the bench and everyone played well."
Rebecca Walk rose to the occasion for the Crescents with 10 kills. Walk is the only eighth grader on OLA's roster.

"It was exciting to get this much playing time in a playoff game," Walk said. "It was a big win for us. But, we have to get focused on our next game."
Sophomore Emma Funk once again led OLA in scoring with 14 service points and 12 kills. Junior Mary Rimmer had 10 service points and eight kills. Funk and Rimmer were the only returning starters from the 2014 championship team.
Also putting up double digits for the Crescents was junior Alia Tayara with 14 service points.
Sophomore Hannah Gest had 32 assists.
The Crescents advance to Round 2 of division play. OLA will face East Marion.
"The playoffs get more competitive every game," Meyers said. "Things will get more difficult as we move along. If East Marion wins, we will play at East Marion on Saturday. If Seminary wins, we will play at Seminary on Thursday."
Should OLA make it through the next round, it will play for the south state championship on Oct. 27.
