Meet the Sun Herald All-South Mississippi Volleyball Team for the 2023 season
The Mississippi Coast showed off its strength on the court again this season and sent three teams to battle for a state championship.
Our Lady Academy took home the title out of 3A and is well-represented on the All-South team. Hancock also reached Oxford out of the 6A bracket and East Central represented the South side from 5A.
Here is the 2023 Sun Herald All-South Mississippi Volleyball Team.
Coach of the Year
Emily Myers Corley, Our Lady Academy
Emily Myers Corley has her Crescents club dominating once again. Our Lady Academy earned its second 3A state title in as many years and its 16th state championship overall in Corley’s fourth season. The Crescents cruised through their schedule this year with a 42-4 record.
Player of the Year
Myah Favre, Our Lady Academy
Our Lady Academy is home to the Sun Herald’s Player of the Year for the second season in a row. Sophomore Myah Favre follows in Annalaura Williford’s foot steps after posting a monster campaign. Favre recorded 461 kills, 126 digs and 81 blocks.
Fan Vote Player of the Year
Lynde Barnes, Gulfport
Barnes earned the fan’s choice Player of the Year honor by dominating the poll after an equally as dominant season. Barnes led the Admirals with 288 kills while also recording 50 blocks. East Central’s Morgan Mears finished second with 11,395 votes.
All-South Mississippi Volleyball
Abigail Radicia, Biloxi: Radicia was versatile, leading the Indians with 222 kills and had 32 aces and 215 digs.
Adelyn Fontenelle, Biloxi: The sophomore led the Indians with 283 digs and contributed with 17 aces and 56 assists.
Morgan Mears, East Central: The Pearl River C.C. commit had 249 kills, 64 blocks and 48 aces as a senior.
Leann Lambert, East Central: Lambert led the Hornets with 112 aces and 507 assists.
- Anslee James, Hancock: James helped lead the Hawks to the 6A finals with 198 kills, 59 aces, 362 digs and 31 blocks.
- Cambria Necaise, Hancock: The junior recorded 307 kills, 344 digs and 65 aces for the Hawks.
- Lane Wedgeworth, Hancock: Wedgeworth picked up 235 kills, 115 digs and 45 aces as a senior.
- Kailey Johnson, Gulfport: Johnson had 232 kills for the Admirals, led the team with 58 aces and contributed 44 blocks and 197 digs.
- Lily Trosclair, Gulfport: Trosclair led the Admirals with 502 assists while also recording 49 kills and 45 digs.
- Anna Hoffmayer, Ocean Springs: Hoffmayer led the Greyhounds with 257 kills with a 50.1 kill percentage. Also had a team-high 41 blocks.
- Lilly Rutland, Ocean Springs: Rutland had 249 kills as a sophomore and led the Greyhounds with 85 aces.
- River Schmidt, Ocean Springs: Schmidt led her team with 371 digs and had 26 aces and 81 assists.
- Taylor Henley, Our Lady Academy: Henley recorded 237 kills and led the Crescents with 118 blocks.
- Ava Davis, Our Lady Academy: The junior racked up 1,061 assists with 91 aces and 241 digs. Was named MVP of the 3A championship match.
- Kinsley Stegall, Our Lady Academy: Stegall led the Crescents with 442 digs and contributed with 39 aces.
- Abigail Hancock, West Harrison: Hancock recorded 356 digs and 17 aces for the Hurricanes.
- Macey Davis, West Harrison: Davis registered 397 assists and picked up 87 digs.
