Two more Coast football standouts will get an additional opportunity to shine after all.
Gulfport defensive lineman Jeremiah Braziel and Poplarville running back Austin Bolton were among four players added to the North and South rosters for the Bernard Blackwell Classic game.
Southaven linebacker Jaylen Posey and Warren Central’s Walt Hopson were added to the North’s roster.
Mississippi Association of Coaches executive director Johnny Mims said they had previously discussed expanding each roster to 42 players and ended up making the decision official Friday.
Bolton is currently fourth in Mississippi in rushing yards with 1,224 on 97 carries for a 12.6-yard average. He has also rushed for 17 touchdowns, tied for second in the state.
Braziel has caused plenty of havoc along Gulfport’s defensive line. He entered Friday night’s game against Hancock with 17 tackles, five TFLs, four quarterback hurries and one sack.
The MAC originally announced rosters for the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game and Bernard Blackwell Classic on Wednesday, with 11 Coast athletes and four coaches landing spots in the two showcases.
Gulfport’s Karlos Dillard and St. Stanislaus’ Brandon Tartavoulle will represent the Coast in the Mississippi-Alabama game, which is scheduled for noon on Dec. 16 at Southern Miss. Poplarville defensive back D.J. Travis, Ocean Springs DB Malcolm Magee, Resurrection defensive lineman Jackson Byrd, St. Martin kicker Sean Gomez, George County linebacker Austin Walker, St. Stanislaus quarterback Jake Greer, Harrison Central running back Keon Moore, East Central running back Tony Brown and ECHS receiver Brad Cumbest will all play in the Bernard Blackwell game.
Gulfport will host the Bernard Blackwell game at noon on Dec. 9.
