East Central High School star running back Tony Brown is finally getting some love from the SEC.

Unfortunately, it comes as the result of some confused Alabama fans after Monday night’s national title victory over Georgia.

Elated Crimson Tide supporters tried to connect with senior defensive back Tony Brown on Twitter after his team’s dramatic 26-23 overtime win over Georgia in the national title game in Atlanta.

Some fans accidentally found the Twitter handle for East Central’s Tony Brown as opposed to the 6-foot, 198-pound Tony Brown from Beaumont, Texas.

He received a couple of direct messages and has been tagged in photos today.

“It was pretty funny from me,” East Central’s Tony Brown said Tuesday. “I didn’t say anything. I was just waiting for them to figure it out for themselves.”

Considering Tony Brown is decked out in his East Central uniform in his Twitter profile photo, the confusion isn’t that surprising. The Hornets’ colors are maroon, gray and white and they wear helmets similar to those of the Crimson Tide with the player number featured.

However, they do have different jersey numbers. East Central’s Tony Brown is No. 4 while Alabama’s Tony Brown is No. 2.

The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Brown put up massive numbers over the last two seasons at East Central, but he’s been overlooked by major programs in the region. His only Division I scholarship offer is from Mississippi Valley State despite rushing for 6,065 yards and put up 92 total touchdowns over his final two seasons, averaging about 10 yards a carry during that stretch.

While Tony Brown is a big name on the Coast and state-wide as the Gatorade Player of the Year for Mississippi, Alabama’s Tony Brown has the rabid following of the Crimson Tide faithful.

It’s now “Touchdown” Tony Brown’s turn to make his name on the collegiate level.
