Tyler Stuart selected by the New York Mets in sixth round of MLB draft
Tyler Stuart has been selected by the New York Mets in the sixth round of the MLB draft.
Stuart was taken with the 179th overall pick.
The 22-year-old had a 3.38 ERA while working primarily as a reliever. Stuart struck out 38 batters in 40 innings. The right-hander brings a high-ceiling arm with a mid-90’s sinker and a 6-foot-9 frame.
“When I saw my name come up on the screen, it kind of came full circle for me,” Stuart told the Sun Herald. “I was beyond stoked. I was with my family and my girlfriend. We were beyond pumped. I couldn’t be any happier for myself.”
Stuart missed the 2020 season with Tommy John surgery, knocked the rust off with a 7.16 ERA-season in ‘21 before becoming a regular in the USM bullpen this spring.
The slot value for the pick is $288,700.
Stuart indicated via Twitter that he signed with the Mets.
Dalton Rogers was previously taken in the third round at 99th overall.
