These South MS schools and colleges are closed or dismissing early due to severe weather

As South Mississippi braces for the potential of severe weather throughout the day and night Tuesday, several Coast school districts and colleges have announced early dismissal or closures.

Strong winds and severe thunderstorms capable or producing hail and tornadoes is possible in South Mississippi, according to the National Weather Service.

The greatest risk in South Mississippi will likely be in some parts of Pearl River County and other areas north and along Interstate 12 in Mississippi and Louisiana, the NWS said. The worst weather will be felt on the Coast between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Here’s a look at schools that have altered their class schedules in preparation for severe weather.

Greene County School District

Greene County Schools will dismiss students at noon Tuesday. After-school programs are canceled.

George County School District

Car riders will be dismissed at 1 p.m., and bus riders will be dismissed at 1:15 p.m.

Long Beach School District

All after school activities are canceled, including tutoring, sports and clubs.

Pearl River County School District

The middle school will dismiss at 11:55 a.m., the high school and Endeavor school will dismiss at noon and the elementary school will release at 1:30 p.m.

Pearl River Community College

All campuses, including the Hancock County campus, will close at 11 a.m. Online classes will still be in operation.

The University of Southern Mississippi

The campus in Hattiesburg the Gulf Coast campus in Long Beach will be closed. Classes will not meet in person or online.

William Carey University

William Carey University’s Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast Tradition campuses will close at noon.
