Mosquito flag removed from round two picks, Mississippi commission says
The mosquito flag is no more.
The Commission to Redesign the Mississippi State Flag said Tuesday the flag’s inclusion was due to a typo, and the error has been corrected.
“The mosquito flag advanced to Round Two due to a typo in a list of flag numbers submitted by one commissioner,” the group said in a statement. “That commissioner has requested that the flag be removed from the Round Two gallery, and MDAH staff has complied.”
Jokingly called the state bird of Mississippi, the mosquito was front and center on the design that has now been excluded.
After people across the state submitted nearly 3,000 designs to replace the current flag with a Confederate emblem, the commission yesterday narrowed the list to 147.
