Mississippians now have only 147 designs to choose from for new state flag

After weeding through about 3,000 submissions, the commission to select the new Mississippi state flag has narrowed the options to 147.

The Mississippi Department of Archives & History posted a new gallery Monday that allows people to browse through the remaining designs and choose which ones they like by a clicking on a heart.

The new list of options range from blue to green to red. Some were neatly sketched out on a piece of paper, while others are clearly done by Mississippians with experience in digital design.

The goal now for the commission is to cut down the designs to a top 10.

Later in August, the commission will meet again to choose five designs that will be turned into fabric flags.

On Sept. 2, the commission will pick its final flag design to be put before voters on Nov. 3.
