Tuesday is Election Day in 2 Coast counties to vote for coroner, supervisor, more

Voters in Hancock County will choose a new coroner in Tuesday’s election and four races are on the ballot in Jackson County.

There is no special election in Harrison County this year.

Three people are on the ballot for Hancock County Coroner to fill the term of Jim Faulk, who resigned in July, citing health issues.

The candidates are:

  • Jeff Hair
  • Tina Stanfill
  • Melissa Taillon

In Jackson County, five candidates qualified to run for the remainder of the term of District 2 Supervisor Melton Harris, who died July 13. He was service his fourth term as supervisor.

His wife, Portia Harris was appointed on Aug. 2 to serve until the special election.

The candidates include:

  • Sherwood Bradford Sr.
  • Mitch Ellerby
  • Richard McBride
  • Ennit Morris
  • John Mosley Jr.

Three other races are on the ballot in Jackson County

Justice Court Judge candidates are:

  • Karen Payne Fountain
  • Terrence Packer
  • Adrienne Crawford Rhodes

Running for Ocean Springs School Board in District 1 are:

  • Wendy Humphreys Green
  • Karen Mullen
  • Lauranne Tomaszewski

On the ballot in Jackson County School Board District 5 are:

  • Chad Evans
  • Amy Arender Peterson

The county polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“Our office will have observers in precincts across the state,” said Secretary of State Michael Watson., and any problems will be reported to the proper authorities. His office has no enforcement authority to resolve problems. he said.
