Here’s what we will — and won’t — know on election night in Mississippi midterms
Tuesday is Election Day for the Mississippi congressional and judicial races. If you’re like most voters, you’re probably wondering how fast we will have answers.
Here’s how it all works.
What we will know on election night
There will be coverage of election results all day, but those will be approximate results. Advanced voting/unofficial results will be released around 7 or 7:30 p.m.
What won’t you know?
You won’t know the official results on election night.
According to Mississippi Vote411, “Official results are never available on Election Day. Election officials are working around the clock to count an unprecedented number of ballots, and it’s essential that they take the time to make sure every vote is counted.”
If a voter’s name does not appear on the poll book or if the voter does not have an acceptable form of photo ID, the voter is entitled to vote by affidavit ballot. Voters who did not have appropriate ID have until Nov. 15 to present acceptable ID to their circuit clerk’s office.
Official results will be posted on the Secretary of State’s website when available.
Tuesday is the last day to vote and voting on election day is 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Any voter in line at 7 p.m. is legally entitled to cast a ballot. Check your polling place on Mississippi’s voter guide.
