Who is running in the South MS Nov. 8 election? What to know and where to vote

Voters will choose Nov. 8 between three candidates to become the new U.S. Congressman from South Mississippi, and also cast their votes for judges and school board members.

The race for the next Coast member of the House of Representatives is between:

  • Republican Mike Ezell, the Jackson County sheriff who defeated incumbent Stephen Palazzo and five other candidates in the primary
  • Democrat Johnny DuPree, former mayor of Hattiesburg
  • Libertarian Alden Patrick Johnson, a Petal firefighter and EMT

Those who can’t vote in person on Election Day can vote in person absentee at their county clerks’ offices.

Absentee voting is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through Nov. 4. The offices also are open Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 29 and Nov. 5.

The deadline has already passed to vote absentee by mail.
