Dogs found ‘fighting for their lives’ in awful conditions. Then PA shelter stepped in
Three dogs in Philadelphia are in a safe space now and on the mend after they were rescued from a “harrowing” cruelty situation.
Bam, Beau and Brenda were saved after a business owner found the three abused pups, the shelter said.
“Abandoned. Forgotten. Fighting for their lives. That is how we found Bam, Beau, and Brenda,” the Pennsylvania SPCA said in an Oct. 25 Facebook post. “One week ago, we received a call from a Chester city police officer stating that he was with a property owner who had discovered three dogs tied up near their business.”
The Animal Law Enforcement team swooped in and found the dogs in chains in makeshift shelters.
“It was evident that no one had been properly caring for the dogs for some time. All three were suffering from fly strike, while Bam and Beau were also emaciated and covered in pressure sores,” the shelter said. “Their bowls were empty, and even the bowls themselves had been chewed on in search of any last morsel of food or water.”
Bam was in the most dire condition out of the three – he was anemic and had dental issues among other critical conditions.
“He was skin and bones, scoring a 1/9 on the Purina Body Condition scale, the lowest possible score for a living dog,” the shelter continued. “He had wounds on his ears and a very large, painful open sore on his hind end.”
While Bam and Beau are under the care of the shelter’s hospital, Brenda is less critical and will possibly be up for adoption soon.
“With each day that passes, all three dogs are becoming stronger and learning to open their hearts up to people,” the shelter said. “They may have been forgotten in the past, but with us, they never will be.”
