A Georgia county risk manager was killed when a tree fell on the car he was driving, police said.

Gregory Scott Sr., 66, was a risk manager in Chatham County’s Occupational Safety, Risk Management and Disability Services department, according to an Aug. 9 Facebook post from the Chatham County Police Department.

On the evening of Aug. 8, he was driving outside Savannah when a falling tree hit his car and he was killed, the county said.

“Today Scott is being remembered by many as a beloved colleague known for his dedication to his profession, and for his quick smile and love of a good conversation,” police said.

The tree fell during extreme storms that covered the Southeast, WJCL reported, leaving thousands without power. Scott was the only reported casualty from the storms in the area, according to the outlet.

Friends and family took to Facebook to celebrate Scott’s life and share the impact he had on his loved ones.

“I am absolutely heartbroken,” one person commented on the police department’s post. “Such a sweet soul. Always left you with a smile. We will miss him so much.”

Police said Scott was survived by his wife and children, according to the post.

Scott’s daughter, Melissa Anita, wrote on Facebook his family is unsure of funeral arrangements.

“The only thing I am sure about is the love he had for each one of you and his family,” she wrote. “As much as this hurts, I find peace in knowing that he loved with all his heart.”

Scott’s son, Gregory Scott Jr., wrote that his dad meant the world to him.

“My dad was my Superman. No matter what happened, he was always in my corner. And he always had my back,” Scott’s son wrote. “Dad also saw or talked to me nearly every day of my life. When he wasn’t there to give me a hug, he would send texts with corny jokes or ‘I love you’ or call and talk to me about the Falcons’ next season.”

As a father, husband, uncle, grandfather and friend, Scott was “a great man,” his daughter wrote.

“I never doubted for a second how much he loved me,” his son wrote. “And I miss him so much.”

Savannah is about 140 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida.
