Airborne SUV crashes ‘nose first’ into home’s living room, North Carolina crews say
An SUV went airborne, crashing “nose first” into the living room of an occupied house, officials said.
Yadkinville Fire-Rescue in North Carolina believes the SUV hit a power pole and wire before slamming into a vehicle that was parked in a home’s driveway. That launched the SUV into the air before it landed on the home, leaving a hole in the roof, according to Chief Jody Doss.
Paul Driver, the owner of the house, told WGHP he was sleeping on April 14 when his wife started yelling.
“I came through the house and opened the door in this room and saw the bottom of a car,” Driver told the TV station. “It’s a feeling I don’t really know how to describe… a car in your house.”
Photos that WXII posted online show the crash left the home with falling beams and a couch covered in debris.
“Flying debris caused damage,” Doss told McClatchy News in a phone interview. “It’s a mess.”
Firefighters were called at about 2:45 a.m. to the incident along Sugartown Road in Yadkinville, roughly 25 miles west of Winston-Salem. At the time of the crash, officials said four people were inside the home — including two children.
Though the home’s occupants weren’t hurt, the crash left two people in the SUV with minor injuries, according to Doss.
The SUV was pulled from the roof, and both vehicles involved in the incident were totaled, WXII reported.
