Driver fatally shot in chest crashes into apartment, injuring resident, NC cops say
Caleb White was sitting in his living room in Greenville, North Carolina, when suddenly, a car barreled through his apartment wall and crashed into him, he told WITN.
The driver was a man with a bullet wound in his chest, Greenville police said in a news release.
White couldn’t tell if the driver was dead since his lights went out during the crash, he told WITN. He said he crawled to his front door, injured, to call the police.
It was just after midnight on Jan. 16 when police officers responded to the call of a vehicle that had crashed into The District apartments. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Aveon Isaiah Collins-Smith, had been shot in the chest before he crashed into the apartments, according to a news release from police.
Police said that life-saving measures were administered on scene but Collins-Smith died at ECU Medical Health Center.
The shooting is believed to be a targeted attack, according to the release.
White was taken to the same hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
