Only in 2020: Celebrity jeweler creates bling mask and shows it off on Instagram
There’s a reason Houston jeweler Johnny Dang is so popular among the rich and famous, and he doubled down on that on Tuesday when he revealed his newest, very prismatic — not to mention lavish — creation.
“World’s first 1 of 1 diamond encrusted smart mask with rechargeable fan/filter system,” the celebrity jeweler posted on his Instagram feed along with the hashtag #FlawlessGang.
That’s right. A diamond encrusted smart mask.
“Someone tag @guinnessworldrecords in the comments because we need to know if a $30k mask beats a record,” the caption continued.
The iridescent shimmers steal the light from multiple angles in the video the jeweler posted, as the specific details from the cluster of rare rocks project like a rich bat signal even Scrooge McDuck can’t ignore.
Or Instagram users.
“Sorry, but this ain’t it,” user king_phan wrote.
While Dang may have left a deep impression on celebrities such as Beyonce, Gucci Mane, Katy Perry, and Cardi B, your average person appears less than thrilled with the creation. At least those casually scrolling on Instagram.
“Take this apart and make me a grill,” said user glizzygorrilla4 under the video. “That’s a waste of diamonds, Johnny.”
No everyone thought it was a waste of space, however.
“I was waiting for this,” wrote kvf22, along with the fire emoji.
Others were wondering what happens to the mask once the pandemic is over.
“So what happens to (the) mask when COVID (is) over?” asked one user.
Some noted that Johnny Dang & Co. isn’t the first to showcase a diamond mask made for the global pandemic.
“Maybe the 2nd most expensive mask,” jton512 said. “Someone made one that costs 1.5 million.”
An Israeli jewelry company named Yvel created an 18-karat white gold mask that was decorated with 3,600 white and black diamonds in August. The company slapped a hefty $1.5 million price tag on it, the Associated Press reported.
Being second isn’t too bad, especially if you’re considered the jeweler to the stars.
