Lane closures on stretch of I-10 extended in South MS. Here’s why, and how long

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said Wednesday that lane closures could last up to another two weeks on a busy stretch of Interstate 10, where construction to fix a pipe was originally expected to end in July.

The closure began early this month in the left westbound lane between the Biloxi River bridge and Exit 38. The Mississippi Department of Transportation first said the lane would stay closed for at least 10 days while a construction crew fixed an inlet and pipe failure.

But the agency said this week that the area’s drainage issue was more severe than crews anticipated. Anna Ehrgott, a public information office for MDOT, said the left lane in both directions will now stay closed for an extra week-and-a-half to two weeks.

MDOT is asking drivers to use “extreme caution” nearby and watch for roadside workers.
