Which Coast school districts have highest, lowest teacher salaries? Here’s the list.
A first-year teacher with a bachelor’s degree in George County will make nearly $6,000 less this school year than someone with the same experience and education who works in the Pass Christian School District.
The Pass is the highest paid district in South Mississippi, while George County is the lowest based on the state’s A classification (bachelor’s degree), according to data the Sun Herald obtained from the Mississippi Department of Education.
Teachers in the Pass in the A classification earned $43,510 for the 2021-22 school year, while the salary for the same teacher in George County was $37,775.
Salaries are different for public school districts in South Mississippi. They can vary for a number of reasons, including city, county or casino supplements.
The Sun Herald wanted to examine teacher salaries on the Coast before the teacher pay raise goes into effect for the 2022-23 school year.
