24/7 live student tutoring coming to many MS Coast school districts. Here’s the list.
Students in almost every South Mississippi school district will soon have the option to access an online tutor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the Mississippi Department of Education said Thursday.
MDE plans to spend $10.7 million of its American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds to purchase the services from PAPER, a company “that provides on-demand educational support,” according to a press release.
The high-dose tutoring sessions will be available for students in grades 3-12 in math and language arts.
The tutoring services will be live, online and available 24/7 with a live person, the MDE said.
“Teachers and administrators will have access to real-time data through a data dashboard to assign activities, monitor student progress and schedule one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions during the school day,” the press release said. Parents will also be able to schedule tutoring sessions for their children.
Tutoring will also be available for English Language Learners and students with special needs. The Latino community is growing rapidly in Mississippi, and the Pascagoula-Gauter School District has the most ELL students in the state.
Here’s a list of the school districts that opted in and will be part of the program:
- Biloxi
- George County
- Greene County
- Gulfport
- Hancock County
- Harrison County
- Jackson County
- Long Beach
- Moss Point
- Ocean Springs
- Pascagoula-Gautier
- Pass Christian
- Pearl River County
- Picayune
Bay St. Louis-Waveland and Poplarville were not on the MDE’s list. Private schools were not eligible.
MDE said it decided to use the pandemic relief funds to “mitigate any impact COVID-19 and school closures had on learning and instruction and as a way to accelerate student learning.”
