Lucedale transgender man set for July trial in sexual battery case
JACKSON COUNTY -- A Lucedale transgender man will go to trial July 25 on charges of sexual battery of a transgender minor.
Krishna "Kris" Maroney had been expected to enter a plea Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court, but instead Judge Dale Harkey set a trial date.
A grand jury indicted Maroney on two counts of sexual battery for alleged sex acts that occurred between Nov. 15 and Dec. 25, 2013.
He also was charged in George County with eight counts of sexual battery, two counts of touching a child for lustful purposes and two counts of aggravate domestic assault.
According to that indictment, the victim had been in a "dating" relationship with Maroney, but was younger than 16 years old at the time.
